Welcome to the Spring term in Year 1

School Uniform

Whilst we want to make sure all pupils are comfortable and happy at school we do ask that all pupils come to school dressed in the correct school uniform. Please see the correct uniform requirements using the link below.

PE

The children currently have 1 PE lesson per week - every Wednesday

Forest school will take place throughout the Spring term on Wednesdays. PE is also on Wednesdays.

Please ensure children come to school wearing clothes and footwear suitable for PE. Also, children will need to have footwear suitable for muddy conditions. They can come to school in either of the pairs of footwear with the other pair in a carrier bag.

Thank you.

Long hair should be tied back and earrings should be removed. If this is not possible earrings should be covered with a plaster.

Water Bottles

Please make sure your child has a water bottle with plain water in it each day. Children find it hard to concentrate if they are dehydrated.

Also, if your child brings a packed lunch, they need a separate water bottle to keep in class as the lunch boxes are stored away from the classroom.

Homework

At Chester Blue Coat we expect every child will do their best and work incredibly hard at school throughout the day, so therefore we keep homework expectations to a minimum.

However, in year 1, we expect children to complete regular reading at home.

The expectations in year 1 is that each child should read at home at least three times a week.

Please make a comment or just sign and date your child's reading record to show that your child has read.

Children also benefit greatly from listening to adults and older children read stories to them, so spend some time enjoying books together. Being read to, develops children's understanding of story structure as well as improving their vocabulary.

At the beginning and end of the school day, there will always be a member of staff at the classroom door; please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns.

Key information - Year 1

Children can change their reading book daily if they have read it the previous night but we would encourage you to read each book twice to help confidence and fluency.

Books can only be taken home in a bag.

Children need to have their yellow reading diaries in school every day.

Plain water only in water bottles please.

If you haven't already, please could you start to help your child to aquire some independence skills? Such as:

    tying their shoe laces

taking off/putting on their own jumper.
