Vision statement 2022

We are Chester Blue Coat; our Christian family encourages those of all faiths and none to value and celebrate our diversity. We grow together as a community of unique individuals, doing everything in love.

"Doing everything in love, go and do likewise."

What is the vision for our school?

The Church of England sets out three questions for schools to answer, in order to have a vision statement that is rooted in Christian teachings:

  • Who are we as a school?
  • Why are we here?
  • How then do we live?

Our Vision statement has been developed using these questions and is explained below. The story of the Good Samaritan helps to visualise how this vision can be applied. It encapsulates our vision in action, with people relating to others and showing God’s love whoever they are.

What does this Vision mean?

Each part of the statement has been carefully thought out to make sure it reflects our school and what happens here.

“We are Chester Blue Coat”; this bold statement points to our history, long heritage and individuality. We are proud to be us and no-one else is like that.

“our Christian family”; being a Christian family means actively using the Bible and Jesus as our primary model of how to help us live well together. In our school family, we have different roles and relationships, bound together by a sense of belonging and mutual support.

“encourages those of all faiths and none”; we are open to all – whether of Christian faith, another faith or no faith. We promote tolerance, understanding and inclusion.

“to value and celebrate our diversity”; we welcome the contributions everyone can bring to our school, rooted in varied cultures, experiences and understandings. We are strengthened by diversity.

“We grow together”; our learning and development is a collaborative process which involves all those around us to support our own individual journey.

“as a community of unique individuals”; we value the individuality and uniqueness that each child and adult brings to the school. This is embraced and celebrated.

“doing everything in love.”; Our school cares about our children, families, staff and community. This quote from the Bible (1 Corinthians 16:14) describes how we care for one another, with love as the underlying motive in all our actions across the school.

The Good Samaritan

  • In this story the Samaritan is embraced for his actions rather than anything else, an example of an outsider providing the model for our behaviour and actions. The story reinforces the welcoming nature and diversity of the school.
  • The story is also about rules, but Jesus takes a different approach and says it is about doing what is right. It also shows love in action, that the actions of one individual can have impact. This is reinforced by important messages for life; Love God, love your neighbour, love yourself.
  • At the end of the story Jesus tells the listeners to “Go and do likewise”. We take our lead from the example and teachings of Jesus to know how to live. This key phrase is a model for our expectations of relationships in school – look at positive role models in school, in an assembly story, or a famous person in history, then go and do likewise.
